As students navigate their academic journey, some may face challenges that impact their learning experience. Inclusive education emphasizes the importance of supporting all students, regardless of their abilities or difficulties. One essential aspect of this approach is how we, as peers, can help friends who struggle in class.
Firstly, to support a struggling friend, we have to first have understanding and empathy. We have to have active listening; which is we have to allow them to share their concerns and feelings without judgment. We can do this by giving our full attention one putting away all forms of distractions, maintaining eye contacts, avoiding interupting by letting them speak without cutting in, and repeating what they said to ensure clarity. And as for the empathy, we have to acknowledge their frustrations and validate their emotions. By doing this, we have to see things from the friend' s point of view, recognise and acknowledge their emotions and Confirming that their feelings are normal and valid.
Doing these will help build trust, encourage openness, foster deeper connection and creates a safe space.
Also, we can put in place practical supports. We can do this by creating study groups; organising study sessions where Friends can collaborate, discuss challenging topics, and learn from one another. And we can also do these practical supports by note-sharing; by providing guidance on note-taking
stratagies or sharing their notes with them. Additionally, we can put in place tutoring; if possible, we can offer to tutor or help our friends find tutors. And we can also break down tasks into smaller steps. By offering practical support like study groups, note-sharing, tutoring, and breaking tasks into smaller steps, we can help friends overcome specific challenges and build confidence in their academic abilities.
Ultimately, we can help friends who struggle
by creating an inclusive environment. We can do this by promoting patience and understanding; encouraging class mates to be patient and supportive. We can also help friends who struggle by relebrating extrerst adversity.By acknowledging and appreciating the unique strengths and contributions of all students. And we can help friends who struggle by advocating for accessible learning materials and resources.
In a nutshell, by providing emotional support, practical assistance, and promoting an indusive environment, we can help friends who struggle in class. By working together, we can create a more supportive and inclusive learning community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive
